Review AUTOLITE 289 4300 Carburetor Core fits MUSTANG FALCON COUGAR 1967–1968

The Autolite C8AF-AS 1967-1968 Mustang, Falcon, 289, 4300, 4bbl Carburetor Core Cougar is a high-performance carburetor designed specifically for Ford Mustang and Falcon models equipped with the 289 cubic inch engine and 4-barrel carburetor configuration. This carburetor core is a rebuilt and reconditioned unit, ensuring that it delivers optimal performance and reliability.

The C8AF-AS carburetor is a 4-barrel design, meaning it utilizes four throttle bodies to provide more air and fuel mixture to the engine for increased power and torque. Each throttle body is equipped with a meticulously calibrated butterfly valve that responds quickly and accurately to driver input.

The carburetor body is made of durable cast aluminum, which not only provides excellent heat dissipation but also helps to keep the weight of the carburetor to a minimum. The base gasket is included with the carburetor, making installation a straightforward process.

The C8AF-AS carburetor features a 4300 CFM air flow rate, making it suitable for high-performance applications. It also includes an electric choke, which ensures easy starting in cold weather conditions. The choke mechanism is designed to be reliable and long-lasting, providing consistent starting performance.

The carburetor's float bowls are designed to hold an ample amount of fuel, ensuring that the engine never runs out of fuel during demanding driving conditions. The float bowl gaskets are made of high-quality rubber, ensuring a tight seal and preventing fuel leaks.

The C8AF-AS carburetor is also equipped with a fine-tuned idle mixture circuit, which allows for easy adjustment of the idle speed and mixture. This feature is crucial for ensuring a stable and consistent idle, which is essential for reliable operation and optimal engine performance.

The carburetor's linkage and mounting hardware are included with the unit, making installation a hassle-free process. The linkage is designed to be adjustable, allowing for fine-tuning of the carburetor's performance to suit individual driving styles and engine configurations.

In summary, the Autolite C8AF-AS 1967-1968 Mustang, Falcon, 289, 4300, 4bbl Carburetor Core Cougar is a high-performance, rebuilt and reconditioned 4-barrel carburetor designed for Ford Mustang and Falcon models equipped with the 289 cubic inch engine. It features a durable cast aluminum body, electric choke, adjustable linkage, and fine-tuned idle mixture circuit. With a 4300 CFM air flow rate and included mounting hardware, this carburetor is an excellent choice for anyone looking to enhance the performance of their classic Ford Mustang or Falcon.

The Autolite C8AF-AS 1800CFM 4-barrel carburetor is a popular choice for restoring or upgrading 1967-1968 Mustang, Falcon, and Cougar engines with a 289 cubic inch V8 and a 4300 RPM power valve secondary system. Here are some pros and cons to help you make an informed decision about purchasing this carburetor.

Pros:

1. Authenticity: This carburetor is a reproduction of the original Autolite 4-barrel carburetors used in these vehicles, making it a great choice for restorations.

2. Performance: The 1800CFM airflow rate provides excellent engine response and power, making it a popular choice for performance applications.

3. Ease of installation: The Autolite C8AF-AS carburetor is designed to fit and function like the original, which simplifies the installation process.

4. Availability: Autolite carburetors are widely available from various automotive parts suppliers, making it easy to find and purchase.

5. Affordability: Compared to other high-performance carburetors, the Autolite C8AF-AS is relatively affordable.

Cons:

1. Complexity: Four-barrel carburetors can be more complex to tune and maintain compared to single-barrel or two-barrel carburetors.

2. Fuel efficiency: Four-barrel carburetors generally consume more fuel than single-barrel or two-barrel carburetors, which can lead to higher fuel costs over time.

3. Cold starting: Four-barrel carburetors can be more difficult to start in cold weather conditions compared to single-barrel or two-barrel carburetors.

4. Vacuum leaks: Four-barrel carburetors have more vacuum ports and gaskets, increasing the potential for vacuum leaks, which can affect performance and fuel efficiency.

Conclusion:

The Autolite C8AF-AS 1800CFM 4-barrel carburetor offers several advantages, including authenticity, performance, ease of installation, availability, and affordability. However, it also comes with some disadvantages, such as complexity, fuel efficiency, cold starting, and potential vacuum leaks. Ultimately, the decision to purchase this carburetor depends on your specific needs, budget, and skill level. If you're looking for authenticity and performance, the Autolite C8AF-AS is a great choice. However, if you're concerned about complexity, fuel efficiency, or cold starting, you may want to consider other options.

Recommendation:

If you're restoring a 1967-1968 Mustang, Falcon, or Cougar with a 289 cubic inch V8 engine and want to maintain its original appearance and performance, the Autolite C8AF-AS 1800CFM 4-barrel carburetor is an excellent choice. However, if you're looking for improved fuel efficiency or ease of use, you may want to consider other options, such as a modern electronic fuel injection system or a simpler two-barrel carburetor. Ultimately, it's essential to weigh the pros and cons carefully and choose the option that best fits your needs and budget.
